Meet the Team - esmatty

Introduction

Hello! Matty here (esmatty if you know me from Discord). One of the many writers on the PCWStats team. I’m an avid gamer and have been for as long as I can remember. I got into tech at a relatively young age thanks to my Grandfather who worked as an AutoCAD engineer and also a big time tech enthusiast. He bought me my first computer (I joined around the 95 era) and introduced me to my long-time love of RTS/4X/Grand strategy games alongside my very first combat flight simulators, many of which I still play to this day

Like many my age I then got into MMOs at the turn of the century, and jumped into the world of ‘social gaming’ before stumbling into World of Tanks as my first exposure to WG in its early development and that leads us to now.

What I Do

Aside from being dragged under duress into contributing to the PCWStats. In my personal life I’m much your old-timey sysadmin. You’ll find me currently managing, building, maintaining and upgrading all the computer stuff on a fleet of ships and complaining about it every step of the way!

Within the PCWStats team you’ll mostly find me contributing to guides for the maps and tanks plus anything else that I can assist with. I also very much enjoy digging through everything the game has to offer, breaking down the information and getting it into the hands of the players. Taking my place as ‘Elder statesman’ so to speak I very much hope my information and advice help you find your way in the game.

My Background

As I touched on in the intro I got exposed to technology at a fairly young age thanks to my late Grandfather. (Crazy these days to think kids are practically born with an Ipad!) Outside of gaming I very much enjoyed pulling everything to pieces and seeing how it worked (the putting it back together in a working way came much later) that's how I learned, hands on, and it's very much what I still do today. Following that passion I went through college and University following the System Support & Networking route and was (at one point) Cisco qualified… And then everything switched to Windows servers!

As for my gaming life, You’ll find me still playing many of the games I grew up with, although with a love for simulation, and RPG’s on top of that. My favourite game series of all time is the Mass Effect Trilogy (We don't talk about Andromeda here) and if you come to me with it, I might talk your ear off.

Favorite Thing About Project CW

I’ve always had a soft spot for hero shooters. Give me a hero shooter with a tank, and I’m in. It’s been a few years since I’ve played any other wargaming product with any real seriousness. I don't care for World of Tanks anymore and World of Warships has gotten to that point where it's unfun. CW has been a breath of fresh air in that sense. It's new, but also familiar at the same time and the gameplay loop is quite addictive.

Favorite Agent and Tank

Since my first playtest I’ve always been a bit of a Punch main, Although that may be better known as Chopper/XM1V to many now. In my MMO days I’ve always been the ‘Tank main’ and I enjoy the CC gameplay style so naturally XM1V and its abilities have been somewhat of a natural fit.

But my favourite agent in design at the point of writing this is probably Blitz. I think his avatar and his tank fit together well and just look great from a visual design point of view. Although I absolutely suck at playing the character.

Fun Facts

I’m a bit of a history buff. It was originally what I was going to do instead of computing, but as a teenager I realised there was a lot of writing (Actual physical writing) so I went my current path instead. Nonetheless, that interest has remained and I will gladly discuss or listen to anyone talking about almost any period in history, or I’ll take good book recommendations. Bonus points if it includes planes, trains, ships, tanks or other heavy machinery.

Outside my “Can’t Beat ‘Em, Bomb ‘Em” slogan which was given to me in the IL2 USL competitive scene back in the early 2000’s I don't particularly have one that has any meaning or will give you any inspiration. Although ‘Just win’ comes up a lot in gameplay

If I was to pick a favourite it would be one from Mass effect “After time adrift among open stars, along tides of light and through shoals of dust, I will return to where I began." But don't go looking for any hidden meaning. I’m just a Talimancer
